I was studying this little big scripture and Jesus revealed a number of things from it that I would like to encourage you with. He told me to tell you this:
‘YOU are the salt of the earth… YOU are the light of the world’
Salt enhances the flavor of food, it brings it to life. You see, there is something about you, and the salt you carry that you shake into your world that makes a difference. Your salt adds flavor to the food of life, and like a good well-seasoned meal, brings joy and satisfaction to those that partake. Don’t let the circumstances of life make you feel any less. You’ve got flavor! You are the salt!
Medicinally, salt has been used to clean wounds, heal and reduce inflammation. How many times has your presence or intervention in situations: that phone call you made, that text message you sent, that encouraging word you gave, those words you prayed, that gift you gave, eased the pain and swelling from the bruises of life of those in your world, indeed my dear friend, you have been the salt that have reduced the pain. Your words of healing sometimes may sting, it may even be painful and appear brash sometimes, but the effect of those words have brought healing and cleansing of old wounds. Thank you.
Light illuminates, light chases away the darkness, light brings happiness and joy, light brings understanding. Light makes the path clear. Dear heart, you are the light of the world. The whole wide world! Jesus has made you the light of the world. In you is the Light, and that Light shines to people all around you. You are a reflection of His light, a city on a hill which cannot be hid. When you bring in your light, which is a reflection of His, solutions appear, big problems become little, those that were in the darkness of depression get a lifting. Don’t be afraid to shine, that’s what you’ve been made to do. You cannot be hidden or suppressed.
But let me tell you this my friend – salt does not need to be put in a large quantity to make an impact. The stronger the salt the less of it you use to flavor food. Your ability to influence is determined by the potency of your salt, not by the quantity of it. If you lose your potency, you become irrelevant. Your ‘saltiness’, which is your ability to influence those around you, is determined by your spiritual capacity- not by any work of your hand. Your spiritual capacity is determined by how much of God you seek. The stronger your relationship with God, the more influence you will have over the issues of life. When you lose your saltiness you put too much effort into things you don’t have to. You try too hard to make it work, and the more you try, the more you lose taste among those who should enjoy your saltiness. God back to the One who made you salt my dear friend. He is faithful
Let me also warn you, that as you walk in the Spirit of God and seek Him daily, things will happen around you as a result of your ‘saltiness’- Some people will not like you, it is the ‘salt effect’ . It exposes them too much and like salt to worms, makes them shrink. Some also, because they cannot comprehend your light that shines so brightly, will try to put it out- but remember, as the rising sun, your path will continue to shine brighter and brighter. Understand these and don’t try to compromise. God is faithful.
Dear friend, YOU are the salt of the earth. Walk in your saltiness. Own it. YOU are the light of the world. Shine on!
Always,
Yemi
